Maybe you have never thought about this question. Most people never ask this question. After all, the Bible starts out with the declaration, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” It ends with God declaring, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” In between the start and finish are the accounts of God’s interaction with people. He is the cavalry coming to the rescue, he is the judge holding people to account. He is the savior of the oppressed, the hope of those who are hopeless, the defender of the weak, the punisher of the wicked. He is the giver of life, the comforter of those who mourn, the guide for the lost, the power that humbles the proud and the wicked. He is the superior alternative for Satan, the protecting wall between people and Satan, the forgiver of sins, the way to a life that lasts forever. This list could go on for quite a while. Of course, God matters.
Yet, there are those who believe God exists but who live as if he doesn’t matter. They are functioning athiests. These are people who do as they please, whenever they please and however they please, never considering that they need God to get through the day. They never give thought that one day they will have to answer to God for how they live. They have no passion for God or for his ways. They might be religious and be in a church building for some form of worship every Sunday, but God does not play a role in their lives outside of that. If God really does not matter, this approach to life would sound rational. Why not be selfish and live as one pleases?
Who is right? Does God really matter? I recommend that you take a look at the list in the first part of this blog. Which reference to God do you relate to the most? Which reference makes a difference today? Which reference will make an impact on you on the last day of your life, or the last day that we call Judgment Day? In reality, there is no question about whether or not God matters. He does. The evidence is too big to ignore; our weaknesses are too many to trivialize. Then the burning question becomes, “When do we change how we think and live because he does matter?”
You and can live in denial of how much God matters. We can choose to not accept that because we are so in love with doing our own thing. In the end, the rejection of God’s relevance and authority only changes one thing: our destiny. Does that make a difference to you?
¿Importa Dios?
Quizás nunca hayas pensado en esta pregunta. La mayoría de la gente nunca hace esta pregunta. Después de todo, la Biblia comienza con la declaración: “En el principio creó Dios los cielos y la tierra”. Termina con Dios declarando: "Yo soy el Alfa y la Omega, el Primero y el Último, el Principio y el Fin". Entre el principio y el final están los relatos de la interacción de Dios con las personas. Él es la caballería que viene al rescate, es el juez que hace que la gente rinda cuentas. Él es el salvador de los oprimidos, la esperanza de los desesperados, el defensor de los débiles, el castigador de los malvados. Sin embargo, hay quienes creen que Dios existe pero viven como si no importara. Son ateos funcionales. Son personas que hacen lo que quieren, cuando quieren y como quieren, sin considerar nunca que necesitan a Dios para pasar el día. Nunca piensan que algún día tendrán que responder ante Dios por cómo viven. No tienen pasión por Dios ni por sus caminos. Pueden ser religiosos y estar en el edificio de una iglesia para algún tipo de adoración todos los domingos, pero Dios no juega un papel en sus vidas fuera de eso. Si Dios realmente no importa, este enfoque de la vida parecería racional. ¿Por qué no ser egoísta y vivir como uno quiera?
¿Quién tiene razón? ¿Dios realmente importa? Te recomiendo que eches un vistazo a la lista en la primera parte de este blog. ¿Con qué referencia de Dios te identificas más? ¿Qué referencia marca la diferencia hoy? ¿Qué referencia te impactará en el último día de tu vida, o el último día que llamamos Día del Juicio? En realidad, no hay duda de si Dios importa o no. Él lo hace. La evidencia es demasiado grande para ignorarla; Nuestras debilidades son demasiadas para trivializarlas. Entonces la pregunta candente es: "¿Cuándo cambiamos nuestra forma de pensar y vivir porque él sí importa?"
Tú y puedes vivir negando lo mucho que Dios importa. Podemos optar por no aceptar eso porque estamos muy enamorados de hacer lo nuestro. Al final, el rechazo de la relevancia y autoridad de Dios sólo cambia una cosa: nuestro destino. ¿Eso hace alguna diferencia para ti?
