Life with Blinders On

It seems to me that many people live their lives like some racehorses. What I mean is: some racehorses run with blinders on their eyes. This keeps them from seeing all that is around them and helps them focus on what is ahead of them so that they run a better race. Many people also go through life with blinders on. However, this doesn’t work so well with people.

The particular set of blinders that many people wear is “Satan isn’t real, and God doesn’t really matter.” There is not a more dangerous set of blinders that a person can wear. So let’s look at the first part, the part where people live as if Satan is not real.

Perhaps you have known someone who just couldn’t understand why bad things happen to them, why it seemed like there was always some trouble or hardship to overcome. Perhaps you have felt like you were living with a bullseye on your back because it seemed like everything that could go wrong in life always went wrong. Maybe you felt like you were cursed or just always had bad luck. Perhaps you are wearing these blinders of “Satan isn’t real.” If so, take them off. Read 1 Peter 5:8 in the Bible and you will see Satan is very real, and he is trying to destroy you.

If you take the blinders off and see this part of reality, you can guard against Satan and have a better life. Know your enemy and his tactics and you can take protective measures. Those measures can improve your life and even save it. You can go through life without feeling like you are going to get ambushed when you walk out your door.

Maybe you need to get rid of some blinders so that you can see more clearly what is really going on. Next week, I will share with you some thoughts about the other half of the blinders, “God doesn’t matter.” Well, he sure does; in fact, he is our protection against Satan.

La Vida con las Anteojeras Puestas

Me parece que mucha gente vive su vida como unos caballos de carreras. Lo que quiero decir es: algunos caballos de carreras corren con anteojeras en los ojos. Esto les impide ver todo lo que les rodea y les ayuda a centrarse en lo que tienen por delante para correr una mejor carrera. Muchas personas también van por la vida con las anteojeras puestas. Sin embargo, esto no funciona tan bien con las personas.

La particular anteojera que mucha gente usa es: "Satanás no es real y Dios realmente no importa". No hay anteojeras más peligrosas que las que una persona pueda usar. Así que veamos la primera parte, la parte donde la gente vive como si Satanás no fuera real.

Quizás haya conocido a alguien que simplemente no podía entender por qué le suceden cosas malas, por qué parecía que siempre había algún problema o dificultad que superar. Quizá vivía como si trajera un centro de un blanco en la espalda porque parecía que todo lo que podía salir mal en la vida siempre salía mal. Tal vez sentiste que estabas maldecido o simplemente que siempre tuviste mala suerte. Quizás estés usando esas anteojeras de que “Satanás no es real”. Si es así, quítatelos. Lea 1 Pedro 5:8 en la Biblia y verá que Satanás es muy real y está tratando de destruirlo.

Si te quitas las anteojeras y ves esta parte de la realidad, podrás protegerte de Satanás y tener una vida mejor. Conoce a tu enemigo y sus tácticas y podrás tomar medidas de protección. Esas medidas pueden mejorar su vida e incluso salvarla. Puedes pasar por la vida sin sentir que te van a emboscar cuando salgas por la puerta.

Tal vez necesites quitarte algunas anteojeras para poder ver más claramente lo que realmente está pasando. La próxima semana compartiré con ustedes algunos pensamientos sobre la otra mitad de las anteojeras: "Dios no importa". Bueno, seguro que sí; de hecho, él es nuestra protección contra Satanás.
