How big is the kingdom of heaven? I am not asking how big is heaven, mind you. We do not even know where heaven is so we sure don’t know how big it is. The kingdom of heaven would definitely involve he realm of heaven, but in the Bible it also involves people. The kingdom of heaven came to earth. Jesus made sure of that. It is safe to say that the kingdom of heaven can be found on every continent, every island, every piece of land where there is a follower of Jesus. But the kingdom of heaven is not about land. It is about people living under God’s reign. How big is this kingdom?
If we listen to Jesus, it is safe to say that the kingdom of heaven is not as small as some people think. In Matthew 13, Jesus told a parable about some wheat and some weeds. This is a parable that describes the kingdom of heaven. It is also a parable that Jesus not only told but also explained. What he revealed about the kingdom of heaven is that no one knows who is in it and who is not, only the Lord knows that. This is where many people get it wrong because they believe the kingdom of heaven only includes the people they acknowledge as members. People usually define that by who is in their particular church or denomination. Well, according to Jesus, the kingdom of heaven is bigger than that.
Other people think the kingdom of heaven is much bigger than it really is. Just being a decent human being gets one into the kingdom. However, that doesn’t square with Jesus’ words. In Matthew 7, Jesus said that only those who do the will of his Father in heaven will be in his kingdom. Even being religious will not get people into the kingdom. Those are Jesus’ very words. What about the other people? Jesus will reject them.
This sounds pretty harsh to us in our times when society has thrown open the doors to accept anything people want to do. Nobody gets judged. There is no such thing as evildoers. Whoever is considered bad today can be regarded as tomorrow’s hero. So Jesus’ words are considered outdated, and they are ignored. That thinking flies pretty well with many people today. However, in the end, it will not be people who are coming back on the clouds of the sky to reveal who is in the kingdom of heaven. That will be Jesus. That day is real and is coming. It seems like a wise course to listen to Jesus and find out what the will of the Father in heaven is. We need ears for Jesus above all others.
El Tamaño del Reino de los Cielos
¿Qué tan grande es el reino de los cielos? No estoy preguntando qué tan grande es el cielo, claro está. Ni siquiera sabemos dónde está el cielo, así que no sabemos qué tan grande es. El reino de los cielos definitivamente involucraría el reino de los cielos, pero en la Biblia también involucra a las personas. El reino de los cielos vino a la tierra. Jesús se aseguró de eso. Es seguro decir que el reino de los cielos se puede encontrar en cada continente, cada isla, cada pedazo de tierra donde hay un seguidor de Jesús. Pero el reino de los cielos no se trata de tierra. Se trata de personas que viven bajo el reino de Dios. ¿Qué tan grande es este reino?
Si escuchamos a Jesús, podemos decir con seguridad que el reino de los cielos no es tan pequeño como algunas personas piensan. En Mateo 13, Jesús contó una parábola sobre algo de trigo y algunas malas hierbas. Esta es una parábola que describe el reino de los cielos. También es una parábola que Jesús no sólo contó sino que también explicó. Lo que reveló sobre el reino de los cielos es que nadie sabe quién está en él y quién no, eso sólo lo sabe el Señor. Aquí es donde muchas personas se equivocan porque creen que el reino de los cielos sólo incluye a las personas que reconocen como miembros. La gente suele definir eso por quién está en su iglesia o denominación particular. Bueno, según Jesús, el reino de los cielos es más grande que eso.
Otras personas piensan que el reino de los cielos es mucho más grande de lo que realmente es. El simple hecho de ser un ser humano decente hace que uno entre en el reino. Sin embargo, eso no concuerda con las palabras de Jesús. En Mateo 7, Jesús dijo que sólo aquellos que hagan la voluntad de su Padre que está en el cielo estarán en su reino. Ni siquiera ser religioso hará que la gente entre en el reino. Esas son las mismas palabras de Jesús. ¿Qué pasa con las otras personas? Jesús los rechazará.
Esto nos suena bastante duro en nuestros tiempos en los que la sociedad ha abierto las puertas para aceptar cualquier cosa que la gente quiera hacer. Nadie es juzgado. No existen los malhechores. Quien hoy es considerado malo puede ser considerado el héroe del mañana. Por eso las palabras de Jesús se consideran obsoletas y se ignoran. Ese pensamiento funciona bastante bien con muchas personas hoy en día. Sin embargo, al final, no serán personas las que regresarán sobre las nubes del cielo para revelar quién está en el reino de los cielos. Ese será Jesús. Ese día es real y está llegando. Parece un proceder sabio escuchar a Jesús y descubrir cuál es la voluntad del Padre en el cielo. Necesitamos oídos para Jesús por encima de todos los demás.
