Jesus Says

We played a certain game when I was a kid, and I played the same game with my kids. We played “Simon Says.” This is a game of imitation and trickery. The leader will tell the followers to do what he/she is doing, something like clapping hands. If the leader says “Simon says clap your hands” while clapping his/her hands, then the followers need to clap their hands. However, if he/she just says “Clap your hands,” the followers are not supposed to. If any do clap their hands, they are out of the game. So the leader is trying to trick the followers into doing what he/she says, and the followers are trying to imitate only what Simon says. That’s the game.

Following Jesus is about imitating Jesus by only doing what he says, not what someone else says…for instance the devil. If you read what Jesus says in that place known as the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). You will read statements from Jesus like, “You have heard it said, but I say…” Jesus knew people were listening to other voices, but if they wanted to be in his kingdom they needed to do what he said, not someone else. At the end of his teachings, he said only those who listened to what he said and did it would enter into the kingdom.

So if you want to follow Jesus, you need to understand that you have to imitate him by doing what Jesus says. That means giving him priority and loyalty over every other voice in your life. So you might want to spend time read what he says. Matthew 5-7 is a good place to start. I encourage you to get some other people to join you in reading and discussing what Jesus says in those teachings. Help each other imitate Jesus. Learn to do what Jesus says.

Jesús Dice

Jugábamos a cierto juego cuando yo era niño y yo jugaba al mismo juego con mis hijos. Jugamos “Simón dice”. Este es un juego de imitación y engaño. El líder les dirá a sus seguidores que hagan lo que él/ella está haciendo, algo así como aplaudir. Si el líder dice “Simón dice que aplaudan” mientras aplaude, entonces los seguidores deben aplaudir. Sin embargo, si él/ella simplemente dice “Aplaude”, se supone que los seguidores no deben hacerlo. Si alguno aplaude, queda fuera del juego. Entonces, el líder intenta engañar a los seguidores para que hagan lo que él dice, y los seguidores intentan imitar sólo lo que dice Simón. Ese es el juego.

Seguir a Jesús se trata de imitar a Jesús haciendo sólo lo que él dice, no lo que alguien más dice... por ejemplo el diablo. Si lees lo que dice Jesús en ese lugar conocido como el Sermón del Monte (Mateo 5-7). Leerás declaraciones de Jesús como: “Habéis oído decir, pero yo digo…” Jesús sabía que la gente escuchaba otras voces, pero si querían estar en su reino tenían que hacer lo que él decía, no alguien más. Al final de sus enseñanzas, dijo que sólo aquellos que escucharan lo que él decía y lo hicieran entrarían en el reino.

Entonces, si quieres seguir a Jesús, debes entender que debes imitarlo haciendo lo que Jesús dice. Eso significa darle prioridad y lealtad sobre cualquier otra voz en tu vida. Así que tal vez quieras dedicar tiempo a leer lo que dice. Mateo 5-7 es un buen lugar para comenzar. Le animo a que consiga que otras personas se unan a usted para leer y discutir lo que Jesús dice en esas enseñanzas. Ayúdense unos a otros a imitar a Jesús. Aprenda a hacer lo que Jesús dice.
