Maybe you’ve been in a place at some point in your life where you were just bored to the max. Wow, that is a terrible place to be. Can you imagine how bad it would be if you were stuck in that place with now foreseeable way out? Once I was taking a class that met for 6 hours a day, one day a week for 9 weeks. I was really excited about the class because I really liked the teacher. The subject matter bored me, but the class was required, and I figured this teacher would make it interesting. I could handle 9 weeks of this class even if it met for 6 hours at a time. Then the unexpected happened…the teacher developed some voice problems and was unable to speak for the next few months. The teacher said there was no problem though. In the previous offering of that class, someone had recorded all of the lessons! The class could go on.
BIG PROBLEM!!!
I suddenly found out that I had now enrolled in a class on a subject that was incredibly boring to me. For the next 9 weeks, I would have to sit and listen to taped lectures…for 6 hours at a time! It was the best option that was available, and I understand that. I know the teacher regretted that things were turning out this way, but the next 9 weeks were just boring! I was stuck, and I had to endure. I can tell you I was so glad when that last minute of that last class had finally come and gone.
I can tell you that I am so glad that my life is not so boring. I do not know what I would do if it were. I want adventure and purpose and fullness in my life. I want my life to make a difference, and I want my life to be worth waking up for each and every day. Do you feel the same way?
If you do, then you want to follow Jesus. If you are tired of just putting in time at work for a paycheck or for some retirement, if you are tired of going through the same motions and routines everyday, if you are tired of coming to the end of your week exhausted by the pointless lack of meaning of all you did in sheer drudgery during the previous week…you need to follow Jesus.
Pick a gospel in the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John), and read it. Feel the life and vibrancy those first disciples felt when following Jesus. They went through some scary stuff, to be sure, but they were alive and their lives made a difference. In fact, they made such an impact that the world has never been the same since, and that’s for a period of almost 2000 years. This doesn’t even factor in the eternity aspect of following Jesus. Each day of following Jesus can bring a new adventure that is filled with purpose. Then consider this: as you look at your future, do you see adventure or boring drudgery? Which of these do you want to pour your life into?

Suficientes Aventuras para Llenar una Vida
Tal vez hayas estado en un lugar en algún momento de tu vida en el que te aburrías al máximo. Vaya, ese es un lugar terrible para estar. ¿Te imaginas lo malo que sería si estuvieras atrapado en ese lugar con una salida ahora previsible? Una vez estaba tomando una clase que se reunía durante 6 horas al día, un día a la semana durante 9 semanas. Me emocioné mucho con la clase porque me agradaba mucho la profesora. El tema me aburría, pero la clase era necesaria y pensé que este profesor la haría interesante. Podría soportar 9 semanas de esta clase incluso si se reuniera durante 6 horas seguidas. Entonces sucedió lo inesperado… la maestra desarrolló algunos problemas de voz y no pudo hablar durante los siguientes meses. Pero la profesora dijo que no había ningún problema. ¡En la oferta anterior de esa clase, alguien había grabado todas las lecciones! La clase podría continuar.
¡¡¡GRAN PROBLEMA!!!
De repente descubrí que me había inscrito en una clase sobre un tema que me resultaba increíblemente aburrido. Durante las siguientes 9 semanas, tendría que sentarme y escuchar conferencias grabadas... ¡durante 6 horas seguidas! Era la mejor opción que había disponible y lo entiendo. Sé que la maestra lamentó que las cosas estuvieran saliendo así, ¡pero las siguientes 9 semanas fueron simplemente aburridas! Estaba estancado y tuve que aguantar. Puedo decirles que me alegré mucho cuando finalmente llegó y pasó el último minuto de esa última clase.
Puedo decirles que estoy muy feliz de que mi vida no sea tan aburrida. No sé qué haría si así fuera. Quiero aventura, propósito y plenitud en mi vida. Quiero que mi vida marque la diferencia y quiero que valga la pena despertar por ella todos los días. Sientes lo mismo?
Si lo haces, entonces quieres seguir a Jesús. Si estás cansado de simplemente dedicar tiempo al trabajo para ganar un sueldo o para alguna jubilación, si estás cansado de hacer los mismos movimientos y rutinas todos los días, si estás cansado de llegar al final de la semana agotado por la falta inútil del significado de todo lo que hiciste con pura monotonía durante la semana anterior... necesitas seguir a Jesús.
Elija un evangelio del Nuevo Testamento (Mateo, Marcos, Lucas, Juan) y léalo. Siente la vida y la vitalidad que sintieron aquellos primeros discípulos al seguir a Jesús. Pasaron por cosas aterradoras, sin duda, pero estaban vivos y sus vidas marcaron la diferencia. De hecho, tuvieron tal impacto que el mundo nunca volvió a ser el mismo desde entonces, y eso durante un período de casi 2000 años. Esto ni siquiera tiene en cuenta el aspecto de eternidad de seguir a Jesús. Cada día de seguir a Jesús puede traer una nueva aventura llena de propósito. Entonces considera esto: al mirar tu futuro, ¿ves aventuras o tareas aburridas y monótonas? ¿En cuál de estos quieres volcar tu vida?
