The Worst Possible Death

Maybe you were like me when you were younger; I used to think about the worst possible way to die. I didn’t dwell on it, but maybe after watching a disaster movie, I would think, “I sure don’t want to die that way.” If I could make  a “Never Die This Way” list, it would include: being eaten by a shark/bear/lion, etc.; in a fire; drowning; torture, the electric chair/hanging. These would be bad ways to die, but oddly enough, they were not the top dreadful way for me. I decided the worst way to die was to die alone. To state the obvious, this was a morbid way to spend time, but maybe you did the same thing. Maybe we still do at times.

I was reading the Bible today and I realized that there is an absolutely, most terrible way to die. You can read it in John 8:21-24. Take a moment to read that. You will see it mentioned twice in those few verses. What is this terrible death? To die in your sins. Maybe that caught you off guard. Maybe you haven’t thought about that. After all, the idea of sin is kind of an old-fashioned relic of religion. Nobody thinks about that kind of thing anymore. Perhaps, but we should. In fact, we should never have stopped understanding how much this insight matters.

What we all know is that our physical bodies wear out and die. We consider it remarkable when someone lives to be 100, 101, 102, etc. Most people do not live that long. We do not want that to be the end, so we are glad when we learn we have a soul that can live forever. Forever is a lot longer than 100. But what happens to our soul, if we live those 100 years in such a way as to die in our sins? Well, you can check out some texts like Matthew 25:31-46 or Revelation 21:6-8. Dying in our sins puts our souls into the fires of hell. It is bad enough when a body burns; it is worse when a soul burns.

These is not a thought we want to dwell on, but it is a timely thought that hopefully guides us to a better fate for our souls. This timely thought might change the course of your life, and so change your destiny.

La Peor Muerte Posible

Quizás eras como yo cuando eras más joven; Solía pensar en la peor forma posible de morir. No me detuve en eso, pero tal vez después de ver una película de desastres, pensé: "Seguro que no quiero morir de esa manera". Si pudiera hacer una lista de “Nunca mueras así”, incluiría: ser devorado por un tiburón/oso/león, etc.; en un incendio; ahogo; tortura, la silla eléctrica/el ahorcamiento. Éstas serían malas formas de morir, pero, por extraño que parezca, no eran la forma más terrible para mí. Decidí que la peor manera de morir era morir solo. Para decir lo obvio, esta era una forma morbosa de pasar el tiempo, pero tal vez tú hiciste lo mismo. Quizás todavía lo hagamos a veces.

Estaba leyendo la Biblia hoy y me di cuenta de que existe una manera absolutamente terrible de morir. Puedes leerlo en Juan 8:21-24. Tómate un momento para leer eso. Lo verás mencionado dos veces en esos pocos versículos. ¿Qué es esta terrible muerte? Morir en tus pecados. Quizás eso te tomó por sorpresa. Quizás no hayas pensado en eso. Después de todo, la idea del pecado es una especie de reliquia religiosa pasada de moda. Ya nadie piensa en ese tipo de cosas. Quizás, pero deberíamos hacerlo. De hecho, nunca deberíamos haber dejado de comprender lo importante que es esta idea.

Lo que todos sabemos es que nuestros cuerpos físicos se desgastan y mueren. Consideramos extraordinario cuando alguien vive hasta los 100, 101, 102, etc. La mayoría de las personas no viven tanto. No queremos que ese sea el final, por eso nos alegramos cuando sabemos que tenemos un alma que puede vivir para siempre. Para siempre es mucho más que 100. Pero, ¿qué le sucede a nuestra alma si vivimos esos 100 años de tal manera que muramos en nuestros pecados? Bueno, puedes consultar algunos textos como Mateo 25:31-46 o Apocalipsis 21:6-8. Morir en nuestros pecados pone nuestras almas en el fuego del infierno. Ya es bastante malo que un cuerpo se queme; es peor cuando el alma arde.

Este no es un pensamiento en el que queramos detenernos, pero es un pensamiento oportuno que, con suerte, nos guía hacia un destino mejor para nuestras almas. Este pensamiento oportuno podría cambiar el curso de tu vida y, por tanto, cambiar tu destino.
